  • 120% rule - A term used to describe an NEC requirement that the output of a PV inverter x 125% plus the rating of the main breaker protecting the busbar can not exceed 120% of the busbar rating. III-V cell — A high-efficiency solar cell made from materials including Group III and Group V elements from the periodic table .

  • 222220% rule - A term used to describe an NEC requirement that the output of a PV inverter x 125% plus the rating of the main breaker protecting the busbar can not exceed 120% of the busbar rating.

  • @20% rule - A term used to describe an NEC requirement that the output of a PV inverter x 125% plus the rating of the main breaker protecting the busbar can not exceed 120% of the busbar rating.

A
  • AC - See alternating current.

  • AC combiner - A term used to describe a service panel dedicated to the combining of AC circuits of a PV system. These are typically used when there are multiple string inverters or multiple microinverter branch circuits.

  • AIC - See amperage interrupt capability.

B
  • balance of system - Represents all components and costs other than the photovoltaic modules/array. It includes design costs, land, site preparation, system installation, support structures, power conditioning, operation and maintenance costs, indirect storage, and related costs.

C
  • charge - The process of adding electrical energy to a battery.
